Why “Darling”?
A Personal Story
Hi there! I’m Sherry, the founder of The Darling Doula — a birth and postpartum doula proudly serving families throughout Durham Region, Kawartha Lakes, and the Greater Toronto Area. The name “Sherry” means “darling” or “beloved,” and it holds a special place in my heart. My late grandfather lovingly called me “Darling” throughout my childhood, and when it came time to name my practice, it felt only natural to honor that connection. The Darling Doula is more than a name — it’s a reflection of the warmth, care, and devotion I bring to every family I support.
After more than two decades supporting complex projects in the fast-paced world of IT, I’ve come full circle — returning to the work that has always been closest to my heart: birth work.
My journey as a doula began over 25 years ago, and while life briefly led me down a different professional path, my passion for supporting growing families never faded. With both deep personal experience and professional insight, I’ve reignited my calling to walk alongside parents as they welcome new life — offering calm, confident, and culturally sensitive care from pregnancy through the early postpartum months.
As a practical nurturer, I take a grounded, hands-on approach to every interaction. I believe that when families feel empowered, informed, and supported, they can navigate birth and early parenthood with greater ease and confidence. I’m especially passionate about helping young families find their footing — offering guidance, reassurance, and practical tools to build confidence and connection.
As a mother to five children and stepchildren, raising a blended family with roots in Indigenous and 2SLGBTQI+ communities, I understand the beauty and complexity of every family story. I meet you where you are — with empathy, encouragement, and real-world wisdom. That lived experience, combined with my professional training and community advocacy, allows me to support families of all backgrounds with authenticity and understanding.
